Socrates P. Kokkalis
Chairman
Mr. Socrates Kokkalis is the founder, Chairman and CEO of the INTRACOM HOLDINGS Group, formerly INTRACOM SA. Founded in 1977, INTRACOM is listed on the Athens Stock Exchange since 1990.
In December 2005, after extensive restructuring INTRACOM was succeeded by INTRACOM HOLDINGS, the largest Greek multinational technology Groups in Southeastern Europe. The Group’s major subsidiaries are: INTRACOM TELECOM (telecommunication systems and solutions), INTRACOM DEFENSE ELECTRONICS, (defense electronic systems), INTRACOM IT SERVICES (IT solutions for the public sector, banks and large enterprises), INTRAKAT (construction, high-tech installations, steel structures, infrastructure maintenance) and Hellas on Line (internet and voice services provider). INTRACOM HOLDINGS, as a Group, has 5.700 employees, exports to 60 countries and operates subsidiaries in 20 countries.
Mr. Kokkalis is also the founder and Chairman of INTRALOT SA, one of the top three global suppliers of integrated gaming and transaction processing systems to state-licensed lottery organizations. INTRALOT is listed on the Athens Stock Exchange and included in the FTSE/ASE-20 index.
Mr. Kokkalis is a major sponsor of leading educational, cultural, and business events in Southeastern Europe. In 1997, he was acclaimed John Harvard Fellow, after establishing the Kokkalis Program at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, USA. To date, the Kokkalis Program has granted scholarships of approximately 40 graduate students for studies in Political Science and Public Administration at Harvard University. The Kokkalis Program has provided more than 300 scholarships for executive education programs, a series of lectures by leading politicians and other distinguished personalities at Harvard, as well as, numerous publications.
In 1998, to honor the memory of his father, Petros Kokkalis, an internationally distinguished Professor of Surgery at the University of Athens, Mr. Kokkalis founded the Kokkalis Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Athens, Greece. The Foundation aims to the diffusion of knowledge and the promotion of research, the support of democratic institutions and the encouragement of cooperation in Southeastern Europe, by underwriting studies and publications, as well as grants in hospitals and other charitable activities.
Mr. Kokkalis is President of the Board of Trustees of the Athens Information Technology (AIT), a non-profit educational and research centre, established in 2002 by INTRACOM. AIT is the largest private investment in Greece in the research and education. AIT has exclusive cooperation across Europe with the US based Carnegie Mellon University and collaborates with Harvard University and the Kokkalis Foundation in executive training programs. To date, ΑΙΤ has offered more than 250 scholarships in students from 21 countries.
Mr. Kokkalis is the President and main shareholder of OLYMPIAKOS soccer and basketball teams, the most popular sports club in Greece.
He is also owner and President of FLASH news radio.
Mr. Socrates Kokkalis was born in Athens, Greece in 1939. He received a M.Sc. degree in Physics and Electronics from Humbolt University of Berlin, in 1963. He is fluent in English, German, and Russian. He also speaks Romanian, Italian and French.
He is married to Mrs. Eleni Kokkalis and has three sons.
