An one day meeting on International sports convene in Athens: An opportunity for regional cooperation and development organized by the Kokkalis Foundation and sponsored by INTRALOT took place in Athens on May 21, 2001.

The purpose of the meeting was to bring together government officials and non - governmental organizations from the entire region of the Southeastern Europe in a top level closed session where the Athens Olympics 2004 President Mrs. Gianna Angelopoulou and the organizing committee team presented the Athens Olympic project and explore the possibilities for regional cooperation in areas such as sports and economic cooperation with other countries in the region.

The participants in this meeting were Ministers of Youth & Sport and Economic Affairs, Presidents of National Olympic Committees ,General Directors of Lottery Organizations and Olympic Gold Medallists from countries such as Albania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Cyprus, Moldova, Malta, Hungary, FYROM and Romania. Among the participants of the above meeting were Mrs Yvonne Schnyder, the General Secretary of the WLA and Mrs Bernadette Lobjois, the General Secretary of European Lotteries.

In parallel with the sessions of the congress the lottery people had the opportunity to discuss the contribution of lotteries in the development of sports and culture. Furthermore they exchange useful information about the development of the new services and products in the entire region of Southeastern Europe.
